This is the memoir of my father, James N. Nicholson. A great deal of it includes remarkable recollections from his time in the Navy from 1942-1945. I hope that reading it gives you, as it did me, some appreciation of the incalculable sacrifice, inspiration and example this generation of incredibly strong and resolute Americans has offered to their children and future generations.

Ed, I wanted you to know briefly that my father Richard G. from Salem, Oregon attended radio operators training with your father. Thanks to your father's story, I was able to read about what my father's experience was like also. Our father's were together until your father went to the Hornet, and my father to the Enterprise (I think). Thank you so much for sharing his story, one I plan to print and share with my family eventually. I was led to the website sometime in the last two years, before your father's death, but was not able to follow up on it. I currently reside in Oregon and hope to perhaps visit with you someday. I know you must miss your father tremendously. My father passed away in 2003. Thank you again for posting the story!

In coming to the story as my Memorial Day honoring of my father, I just saw your comment. I'd not seen it until now. It would be great to compare our fathers' stories sometime.
Kind regards,
Ed

Ed,
it was great to read your message! I am off work from teaching right now so had the time to recheck. I would love to compare the stories. There were so many things that came back to me as I read, such as actor Richard B. being with them. Perhaps our parents were at renunions together, I asked my mother about your dad, she vaguely remembered and we lost time to follow up on it. She passed away this mother's day but somewhere in her belongings are notes and addresses. Please feel free to email me at fruinc@gmail.com and we can follow up. Christine (Chris)
